CBSE Class X Maths Syllabus for Session 2022-23 [Updated]

CBSE Class 10 Maths syllabus for the session 2022-2023 is very important for each student and parent to know to prepare themselves or their children for CBSE Class 10 Mathematics Paper. The syllabus for Mathematics has changed over the years as per the growth of the subject. The current CBSE Class 10 maths syllabus has been designed in line with the guidelines given in the Focus Group on Teaching of Mathematics and National Curriculum Framework 2005. The syllabus has been designed with the expectation that at the end of the session the students would be able to solve problems using algebraic methods and apply simple trigonometry to solve problems of height and distances.

Here, you will find the detailed Class X Maths Syllabus and Class X pattern of Mathematics paper.

Weightage of each Unit in CBSE Class 10 Maths Paper

First of all, let us know the weightage of each unit of the Class X NCERT Maths book as it will provide you right direction for your preparation. The Units with higher weightage need to be focused more. The easy units with low weightage should be prepared first and then proceed for difficult units.

Detailed CBSE Class 10 Maths Syllabus

Unit-I: Number Systems

It contains Chapter 1: “Real Numbers” in which Euclid’s division lemma and Fundamental Theorem of Arithmetic are important topics along with proofs of irrationality of number like root 2, root 3. The weightage of this chapter alone is of 6 marks. Therefore, one needs to go through the chapter thoroughly and understand the concept.

Unit-II: Algebra

It contains Chapter 2, 3, 4 and 5 of Class X NCERT Maths book. The unit is again very important because it has the highest weightage of 20 marks. The questions asked from this Unit are often scoring. The detailed syllabus for this unit can be referred below:

Chapter 2: Polynomials- Degree of polynomial, Zeros of a polynomial, Relation between zeroes and coefficients of a polynomial, Division algorithm for Polynomials

Chapter 3: Pair of Linear Equations in Two Variables- Pair of linear equations in two variables, Graphical method of solution of a pair of linear equations, Solution of a pair of linear equations in two variables algebraically - by substitution, by elimination, by Cross-multiplication method, Solution of such pairs of equations which are not linear but can be reduced to linear form.

Chapter 4: Quadratic Equations- Standard from of a quadratic equation, Solution of a quadratic equation by factorization, completing the squares or using quadratic formula, relation between discriminant and nature of roots, situational problems based on quadratic equations

Chapter 5: Arithmetic Progressions-  General term of Arithmetic Progression, nth term of an AP and sum of the first n terms of A.P. and their application in solving daily life problems.

Unit-III: Coordinate Geometry

The unit has a weightage of 6 marks. It contains Chapter 7: “Coordinate Geometry” in which one has to go through the concepts of coordinate geometry, graphs of linear equations, distance formula, section formula (internal division), area of a triangle

Unit-IV: Geometry

This unit has the second highest weightage of 15 marks. This unit is comparatively more conceptual and demands more practicing. This unit contains Chapter 6 and 10 of NCERT Class X Maths book. One can go through the detailed syllabus of these chapters which is given below:

Chapter 6: Triangles- Similarity of Triangles- Definitions, criteria of similarity, examples, counter examples of similar triangles, Areas of similar triangles, Proof of Pythagoras theorem using concept of similarity of triangles

Chapter 10: Circles- Tangent to a circle, Theorems related to tangent to a circle, Number of tangents from a point on a circle

Unit-V: Trigonometry

Another important unit whose weightage is third highest i.e. 12 marks. It consists of NCERT Class X Maths Chapter 8 and 9. The chapterwise detailed syllabus is given below:

Chapter 8: Introduction to Trigonometry-  Trigonometric ratios of complementary angles, Trigonometric ratios of some specific angles, Relationship between trigonometric ratios, Trigonometric identities and their proofs.

Chapter 9: Some Applications of Trigonometry- Heights and distances, line of sight, angle of elevation, angle of depression

Unit-VI: Mensuration

This unit carries a weightage of 10 marks. Chapter 12 and 13 of NCERT Class X Maths book fall under this unit. The detailed topics to be covered in this unit are given below:

Chapter 12: Areas Related to Circles- Perimeter and area of a circle, Area of sectors and segments of a circle (central angle-60°, 90° and 120°), Areas of combinations of plane figures, Problems based on areas and perimeter / circumference of the plane figures.

Chapter 13: Surface Areas and Volumes- Surface areas and volumes of combinations of any two of the following: cubes, cuboids, spheres, hemispheres and right circular cylinders/cones, Conversion of solid from one shape to another, Frustum of a cone.

Unit VII- Statistics and Probability

This last unit carried good weightage and is the easiest to score full marks.

Chapter 14: Statistics – Mean of a grouped data, Class mark, Methods to calculate mean, mode of a grouped data, Median of a grouped data, the concept of cumulative frequency, Graphical representation of cumulative frequency distribution, Relation between mean, mode and median

Chapter 15: Probability- Classical definition of probability, Impossible event, Sure event, complementary event, Simple problems on finding the probability of an event.

Internal Assessment for CBSE Class 10 Maths

In order to score well in internal assessment, the student needs to score good marks in periodic tests of Maths subject (maximum 3 tests), maintain notebook, complete assignments on time, project work as assigned by the teacher.

We wish good luck to all students of Class X who would be appearing for board exams in 2023.
